Nebraska Cornhuskers fans swarm Kansas City (and Joe’s KC) for season opener
Long lines outside Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que are not an unusual sight, not even when everyone is wearing the same color. But all that red people wore in line outside the gas station location in KCK on Thursday wasn’t for the Chiefs.
Those were hungry Nebraska Cornhuskers fans. Lots of them.
They were in town for their first game of the season against the Cincinnati Bearcats at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Joe’s posted photos of the red invasion on its social media pages.
“#Huskerpower is starting to take over Joe’s today! Welcome to KC!” it wrote on Instagram.
Two hours later, the lines were still there.
“You are an impressive crowd Husker fans. We appreciate you and the energy today!!” Joe’s wrote.
As one Nebraska-based Instagram account wondered: “Is anybody left in the state of Nebraska?”
The Bearcats will have a VIP alumnus cheering them on.
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, newly engaged this week to Taylor Swift, had plans to attend. He and his brother, Jason Kelce, both played football for the Bearcats in their native Ohio.
The school, by the way, honored Kelce’s big personal announcement with a message on its football stadium scoreboard earlier this week.
Which makes us wonder: will Arrowhead follow suit?
The game begins at 8 p.m. Thursday. The Bearcats are the designated home team.
Nebraska fans didn’t even wait to park at Arrowhead before they began tailgating.
