Gracie Hunt on new boyfriend Derek Green: ‘Known each other our whole lives’
While millions follow the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce romance, another celebrity relationship blooming in Chiefs Kingdom is picking up Xavier Worthy-like speed.
Gracie Hunt, 26, seems to be dropping hints that fans will see more of her boyfriend, Derek Green, during the upcoming football season because, as she declared recently, they are inseparable.
A football power couple in the making?
They are Chiefs royalty. Hunt is the oldest child of the team’s CEO and co-owner Clark Hunt and his wife, Tavia Hunt. Green is the son of former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green.
“Derek and I have known each other our whole lives,” she recently told People. “We would actually play together as babies during the Chiefs’ Christmas parties every year, and then we reconnected as adults in 2017 and met on the sidelines pregame.”
Hunt and Green, who turns 26 soon, were toddlers when Trent Green was traded to the Chiefs in 2001. He was with the team for six seasons.
“We reconnected in early March and have been inseparable ever since,” she told People.
Hunt went public with Green in May in a series of photos with chatter that read: “My heart is full.
“Grateful for some much-needed time to rest, reflect, and reset after a whirlwind few months post-football season. So thankful for time with the people who keep me grounded, remind me I’m loved, and never fail to make me laugh. Swipe for a few favorite snapshots from life lately.”
She had posted photos of them the month before at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., though she didn’t identify him. Over the summer, he popped up in several of her Instagram snaps.
This summer, Hunt traveled to Europe, which included a stop at the Monaco Grand Prix. She met Chiefs fans along the way, which she took as evidence that the four-time Super Bowl champs belong to the world now.
(Having Swift as a fan has certainly helped.)
The team opens its regular season against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
“Every offseason, my goal is really to focus on growing my faith, which is a grounding and inspiring part of my life. It’s to make sure that I spend quality time with my family and friends and really cherish those meaningful connections,” she told People.
“Beyond that, it’s exploring business opportunities that give me a fresh perspective and can really help me prepare for the future. The last objective of the offseason is to spend time in nature, to reset and recharge. That way, I’m ready to give my best in the upcoming season.”
As much globe-trotting as she did over the summer, she told People she never truly stops thinking about football. Ever.
The game has been important in Green’s life as well. He played football for Rockhurst High School, where he now volunteer-coaches; at Southern Methodist University — also Hunt’s alma mater; Long Island University; and, most recently, for teams in Italy, France and Sweden.
He put his SMU business administration degree to work last year when he joined Creative Planning financial services in Overland Park as a sports operations manager.
In an interview last year on the podcast, “I Played, Too,” host Rob Adler asked Green where he sees himself in 10 years. “Hopefully find a wife and have a couple of kids,” he said, adding that his then-new job would give him direction.
“Can’t really tell you a precise answer,” he said. “But I just hope I can be happy.”
He looked happy in a video Hunt posted of them Friday playing like little kids in an empty GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Hours before kickoff of the Chiefs-Bears game, Hunt posted a video of them participating in the latest TikTok craze where boyfriends chase after their girlfriends in a foot race.
Green gave her a head start.
Hunt, who is a runner, sped like a wide receiver from one end zone toward the other. But Green caught up.
“I put up a pretty mean 40 time though,” she wrote.
