A road in Kansas City’s Northland reopened Saturday after it took crews several days to clean up a massive gasoline spill this week.

Jesse James Farm Road at Northeast 138th Street near Kearney had been closed since Monday afternoon, when a semi tractor-trailer overturned and dumped more than 5,000 gallons of gasoline.

A spokesperson with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said in an email Saturday that the road had reopened to the public.

Environmental remediation work will continue in the area, the spokesperson said.

During a preliminary investigation, the driver of the semitruck allegedly told officials the road was “too narrow,” and as he tried to move over for an oncoming vehicle, the truck’s wheels went off the road.

There were no reported injuries in the crash. An investigation into what caused the wreck is ongoing.

The Kearney Fire and Rescue Protection District, Kansas City Fire Department and Missouri Department of Natural Resources assisted in cleaning the area.
