A road near Kearney, Missouri, will likely remain closed for the rest of the week as officials work to clean up over 5,000 gallons of spilled gasoline, according to a press release from Clay County Sheriff’s Office public relations manager Sarah Boyd.

A semitractor-trailer overturned around 1 p.m. Monday on Jesse James Farm Road at Northeast 138th Street just outside Kearney, according to a previous press release.

The truck lost control before overturning in the roadway, dumping nearly 5,000 gallons of gasoline. No injuries were reported.

During a preliminary investigation, the driver of the semitruck told officials the road was “too narrow,” and as he tried to move over for an oncoming vehicle, the truck’s wheels exited the roadway, Boyd said.

Jesse James Farm Road remains closed from 132nd Street to 138th Street and will “likely stay closed the rest of the week while cleanup continues,” according to the press release.

The Kearney Fire and Rescue Protection District, Kansas City Fire Department and Missouri Department of Natural Resources are assisting in cleaning the area, Boyd said.
