Semi rolls over on road in KC’s Northland, causing gas spill, hazardous cleanup

Emergency crews responded to a hazardous materials situation Monday afternoon after a gasoline tanker truck overturned just outside Kearney, Missouri.

The accident occurred around 1 p.m. at the intersection of Jesse James Farm Road and NE 138th Street.

According to a statement from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the incident involved a single semi-truck hauling gasoline that lost control and overturned on the rural roadway.

The exact cause of the crash has not yet been released.

Officials confirmed that a significant fuel leak was detected at the scene, prompting a large-scale emergency response. Both the Kansas City Fire Department and the Kearney Fire and Rescue Protection Division are on site, with hazmat teams working to contain and clean up the spill.

As of Monday afternoon, Jesse James Farm Road remains fully closed between NE 132nd Street and NE 138th Street. Authorities have not provided a timeline for reopening, saying only that the closure remains due to extensive cleanup.

There were no reported injuries.

Further information, including the identity of the driver and details on what may have led to the crash, has not yet been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
