A second person has died weeks after being hospitalized from a fatal crash in south Kansas City, police said.

Officers responded to a reported crash around 4:41 p.m. at Blue Ridge Boulevard and Eastern Avenue, according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a police spokesman.

A silver Dodge Dakota drove south on Blue Ridge Boulevard when a green Subaru Forester driving north on Eastern Avenue entered the intersection from a stop sign and hit the Dodge, according to a crash report.

The Dodge then struck a curb and a metal light pole before overturning, DiMartino said. The front-seat passenger of the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, where they were hospitalized for weeks.

Medical staff pronounced the driver dead just before 1 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Police have not yet publicly identified the victims.

The driver’s death is Kansas City’s 45th traffic fatality this year, DiMartino said.

The driver and rear-seat passenger of the Subaru were not injured in the crash, DiMartino said.
