One dead, one in critical condition after crash in south Kansas City
One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a collision in south Kansas City on Thursday, according to a news release from Kansas City Police Department Sgt. Phillip DiMartino.
Officers responded to Eastern Avenue and Blue Ridge Boulevard at 4:41 p.m., DiMartino said.
A preliminary investigation showed that a silver Dodge Dakota was southbound on Blue Ridge Boulevard when a green Subaru Forester headed north on Eastern Avenue entered the intersection from a stop sign and hit the Dodge, DiMartino said.
The Dodge struck the curb and a metal light pole before overturning, DiMartino said. The front-seat passenger of the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. Neither person was wearing a seat belt.
The driver and rear-seat passenger of the Subaru were uninjured, DiMartino said.
The death is Kansas City’s 43rd traffic fatality of 2025, compared to 49 traffic-related deaths at this time last year, DiMartino said.
