A missing 2-year-old boy from Topeka has been found safe Tuesday after he went missing from a home where two people were killed, police said.
The Topeka Police Department responded to the 500 block of Northeast Wabash Avenue Tuesday for a welfare check. They found two people deceased inside a home, one man and one woman, according to a news release.
Police have not yet publicly identified the victims.
Police were looking for a missing 2-year-old child who reportedly lived in the home. An Amber Alert was issued for the child Tuesday morning by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Police said in a news release that the child was found safe early Tuesday afternoon in Mattoon, Illinois, about 6 1/2 hours northeast of Topeka.
Local authorities in Illinois conducted a traffic stop on the mother’s missing Lexus sedan. Police said a suspect in the case has also been located.
According to the Amber Alert Tuesday, the boy was forcibly taken from his mother by an unknown suspect on Friday.
It was not immediately clear what led to the delay in the Kansas Bureau of Investigation being notified of the boy’s disappearance.
