A woman is suing the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center after she was allegedly drugged at the hotel’s bar and sexually assaulted in her hotel room, according to the lawsuit filed in a Jackson County court.

The woman was staying at the hotel on Oct. 24, 2023, for a convention, according to the lawsuit. That evening, she was at the hotel’s bar when she alleges she was “drugged by an unknown individual.”

The individual then allegedly followed the woman to her room and sexually assaulted her.

The woman, who asked not to be identified, is suing the hotel for negligence, according to court documents. The lawsuit claims the hotel “owed a heightened duty to the plaintiff in addition to its duty of reasonable care.”

The Crown Center Development Corporation declined The Star’s request for comment.
