Interstate 35 reopens in KC after crash leaves pedestrians in critical condition
A crash on Interstate 35 sent three pedestrians to the hospital and shut down the northhbound lanes for 3 and 1/2 hours Sunday, Kansas City police said.
Officers responded just before 11:30 a.m. to a reported crash on I-35 near The Paseo in Kansas City, according to a Kansas City Police Department crash log.
A preliminary investigation showed that a white Toyota Corolla was parked on the right shoulder of I-35. Three pedestrians were standing outside the vehicle.
A white Dodge Ram 2500 pulling a trailer on I-35 braked and swerved to the right to avoid traffic that was stopping on the highway, the crash log said. The Dodge truck struck the Toyota and three pedestrians on the right shoulder of the highway, according to the crash log.
Paramedics transported all three pedestrians to a hospital with injuries police believed to be life-threatening, the crash log said.
Two pedestrians remained in critical condition Sunday evening, while one was recovering from their injuries, police said.
All lanes of northbound I-35 were closed at Admiral Boulevard for approximately 3 and 1/2 hours, police said. The highway has since been reopened
Police continue to investigate the crash.
