A driver died Saturday, 10 days after being involved in a two-car crash on Interstate 35 in Kansas City, police said.

Officers responded to a crash just before 11:30 a.m. June 18, according to a Kansas City Police Department crash log.

A preliminary investigation showed that a red Nissan drove south on I-35 when they allegedly failed to turn at a curve in the road, the crash log said. The Nissan drove off the left side of the road and traveled across the grass median to the northbound lanes of I-35.

According to the crash log, the Nissan then hit a Subaru that was driving north on I-35.

Paramedics transported the Nissan driver to a hospital in critical condition, the crash log said.

On Saturday, police were notified by medical staff that the Nissan driver died from their injuries.

The driver and two other occupants of the Subaru were taken to a hospital with injuries police believed to be not life-threatening.

The fatal crash is Kansas City’s 41st traffic death this year, according to Capt. Jake Becchina, a police spokesman. At this time last year, the city had recorded 49 traffic deaths, Becchina said.
