Woman drowns after mower she was riding rolls into a Kansas City creek
A woman died after the mower she was on tumbled into Brush Creek over the weekend, police and fire officials said.
The accidental drowning occurred about 1:35 p.m. Saturday near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Prospect Avenue, Capt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.
At the time of the accident, the woman was riding a mower that rolled into Brush Creek, said Battalion Chief Riley Nolan, a spokesman with the Kansas City Fire Department.
When police officers arrived, they saw several of the victim’s coworkers in the water looking for her. Once the victim was located, officers and bystanders were able to pull her out of the water and start CPR, Becchina said.
Firefighters arrived as the woman was being pulled from the water and placed on the creek’s bank, Nolan said. Fire crews took over medical care and took the woman to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The woman has not been identified.
