One killed in police-involved shooting at Lenexa apartments
Update: The Lenexa Police Department identified the victim as Jose Enrique Cartagena Chacon, 25, of Grandview, according to a press release from the department.
One person was killed in an officer-involved shooting at a Lenexa apartment complex early Sunday morning, according to police.
Officers with the Lenexa Police Department responded to the Lenexa Crossing Apartment Homes, in the 12400 block of W 97th Terrace, around 3:00 am Sunday after receiving reports that someone there was armed, LPD wrote on social media Sunday morning.
“Shots were fired by at least one Lenexa officer, and one person is deceased,” the department wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The person killed in the shooting had not been publicly identified as of Sunday morning. No officers were injured in the shooting, according to LPD.
The Johnson County Officer Involved Critical Incident Investigation Team began an investigation into the shooting later Sunday morning, according to LPD.
Sunday’s shooting was the fourth homicide reported in Lenexa this year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes police-involved shootings. At the same time last year, one homicide had been reported in Lenexa, the city’s only homicide of 2024.
