Rain expected in the Kansas City area. When will metro begin to dry out?

Rain is expected to fall across the Kansas City area on Thursday, mainly focused along and south of Interstate 70, according to the National Weather Service.

The rain is expected to be mostly light, and the potential for thunderstorms and lightning is limited, the weather service said in its forecast discussion.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and evening as the storm system begins clearing in the north and west, the weather service said. Severe weather, however, is not expected.

“This activity will gradually wane through the evening hours, giving way to clearing skies,” the weather service said.

Temperatures will remain cooler than usual, with highs reaching 69 degrees in the metro. Kansas City’s temperatures typically are around 79 degrees this time of year.

Fog may develop in the evening in areas that receive sufficient rainfall, especially in central Missouri.

“Since timing and amounts of precipitation are somewhat uncertain, have left mention of fog out of the forecast at this point, but will be something to keep an eye out for Friday morning,” the weather service said.

Warmer, sunnier days in Kansas City’s forecast

After any fog burns off, dry and warmer weather is expected to move into the Kansas City area.

“Friday looks to be a chamber of commerce day,” the weather service said.

Skies will be sunny and clear, with temperatures returning to normal.

Temperatures are expected to be even warmer over the weekend, reaching the mid- to upper 80s on Saturday and Sunday.

A weather disturbance might bring rain on Saturday, but the forecast is uncertain as to where showers might develop.

The warm-up continues through the weekend into early next week, with temperatures reaching around 88 degrees on Monday, 87 degrees on Tuesday, and 85 degrees on Wednesday.

Rain and thunderstorms will be possible mid- to late next week.
