Man killed in Westport shooting after argument on Friday evening
Update: Police on Saturday identified the victim as 30-year-old Levon J. Quinn.
The Kansas City Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that left one man dead Friday evening, according to a press release from KCPD media spokesperson Alayna Gonzalez.
Police were dispatched to the 3900 block of Broadway Boulevard just after 4 p.m. on reports of an accident, according to the press release. The call was later updated to a shooting.
Officers located an unresponsive victim suffering from gunshot wounds in a vehicle near West 43d Street and Broadway Boulevard, according to the press release. The man was transported to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.
A preliminary investigation revealed that an argument took place between the victim and the suspect in an area business, according to the press release.
The argument continued between the men as they walked outside of the business, resulting in gunfire, according to the press release. The male victim left the area in a vehicle before coming to a stop near 43d Street and Broadway Boulevard.
Officers initially made contact with a man at Westport Road and Broadway Boulevard, according to the press release. The man’s vehicle had been struck when the victim was leaving the area.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing. The victim’s name has yet to be released to the public.
A suspect was taken into custody shortly before 8:30 p.m., Gonzalez said in an email to the Star.
The man’s death marks the 65th homicide in Kansas City in 2025, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. As of May 23, 2024, Kansas City had experienced 56 homicides.
