One woman was found dead while a fire engulfed her mobile home in Excelsior Springs Friday morning, police said.

Firefighters and police officers responded to a home on Stratton Street around 5:30 a.m. after a caller said their neighbor’s porch was on fire. Upon arrival, they found a mobile home on fire, said Lt. Ryan Dowdy, an Excelsior Springs police spokesperson.

While crews put out the blaze, firefighters searched the home and found a woman in a bedroom deceased. The woman appeared to live in the home alone, Dowdy said.

The woman’s death is being investigated by the Excelsior Springs Police Department, and the state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

The family of the woman has been notified, Dowdy said, but police have not yet publicly identified her.
