Cyclist killed after weekend collision in Kansas City

A cyclist is dead after an collision in Kansas City Saturday evening, according to police.

Police were called to the area of 31st Street and Flora Avenue around 10:22 p.m. on a reported collision that injured one. The cyclist was biking north on Flora Avenue, failed to stop at a stop sign and was hit by a white Honda Civic traveling east on 31st Street, according to Sgt. Philip DiMartino, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

The cyclist was taken to the hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after. The driver of the Honda cooperated with the investigation, according to DiMartino.

The name and age of the victim has not been released.

This marks the 23rd fatality this year compared to 39 this time last year, according to data tracked by the Kansas City police department. The investigation is ongoing.
