Both directions of a stretch of Interstate 435 in Overland Park will be closed this weekend while work crews demolish a bridge along U.S. 69, the Kansas Department of Transportation said.

The westbound Interstate 435 to southbound U.S. 69 ramp will also be closed to traffic during the work.

The closure of eastbound and westbound lanes of the interstate, which comes as part of the U.S. 69 expansion project, will run from Quivira Road to Antioch Road, beginning 7 p.m. Friday. Weekend detours will be marked. The area will reopen to traffic by 6 a.m. Monday, the department said.

During the closure, crews will demolish the northbound U.S. 69 overpass over Interstate 435.

A long-term closure of the eastbound Interstate 435 to northbound U.S. 69 ramp and the northbound U.S. 69 to westbound Interstate 435 ramp, is scheduled to remain in place through October.

Work on the U.S. 69 reconstruction project began in 2023 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year. The effort will include a widening of U.S. 69 with added express toll lanes between 103rd and 151st streets and interchange updates at U.S. 69 and 167th Street.
