Hit-and-run in Costco parking lot leaves person in critical condition, police say

A person was critically injured in a hit-and-run incident in the parking lot of a Costco in midtown Kansas City Monday night, according to police.

Officers responded to the bulk grocery warehouse at 241 E. Linwood Blvd. around 3:45 p.m. after reports that a pedestrian had been injured by a car, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a KCPD spokesperson.

According to Gonzalez, the pedestrian got into an argument with the driver of a black Mercedes and tried to hang on its door handles as it began to leave the parking lot. As the Mercedes sped up, the pedestrian was knocked to the ground and the car ran them over, Gonzalez said.

The Mercedes fled the scene and the pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, where they are in critical condition as of Monday night, Gonzalez said. Neither the driver nor the pedestrian has been publicly identified.
