Twenty-one-year-old Shawnee man dies in single-vehicle crash on Kansas highway

A man died in a single-car crash on a Wyandotte County highway on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The crash took place around 1:20 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 435 near K32, according to Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs.

Jacob Robert Thomas, 21, of Shawnee, was driving in the right lane in a 2006 Hyundai Sonata when he allegedly swerved across several lanes of traffic, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Thomas ultimately swerved into the highway median and hit a bridge pillar and sustained fatal injuries, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. He was declared deceased at 1:45 by emergency responders.

Thomas was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
