Motorcyclist dies in crash on Independence Highway, police say
A motorcyclist died after colliding with a car on an Independence highway early Sunday morning, according to Independence police.
Officers responded to the southbound lanes of Missouri Highway 291 at 23rd Street around 12:20 a.m., according to an Independence Police Department spokesperson. They encountered an injured motorcycle driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash victim was later identified as Jeremy Robinson, 48, of Oak Grove.
Investigators believe Robinison died after he drove into the back of a Chevrolet Equinox that had stopped at a red light, according to IPD. The driver and passenger of the Equinox were not injured, according to IPD.
The crash is still under investigation, according to IPD. However, the police spokesperson said that the deceased motorcyclist had not been wearing a helmet when they crashed into the car.
