Man dies after being hit by dump truck on State Line Road in KCK, police say

A pedestrian died after they were struck by a dump truck in Kansas City, Kansas, Tuesday morning, according to the Kansas City, Kansas, police department.

Officers responded to the 4300 block of State Line Road around 8:30 a.m., according to KCKPD spokesperson Jovanna Cheatum. The responding officers found a man in the roadway with injuries consistent with a hit-and-run incident. He was declared dead at the scene.

KCKPD believes that a dump truck from a nearby construction site hit and killed the man before leaving the scene, according to Cheatum. Investigators have identified the construction company operating the dump truck, Cheatum said, but have not publicly identified the driver responsible for the collision.

State Line Road temporarily closed at 43rd Street Tuesday morning following the hit-and run.

As of Tuesday, 86 people have died in traffic crashes in Kansas in 2025, according to data collected by the Kansas Department of Transportation.
