The lights are off and doors are locked at the only remaining location of longtime Kansas City pizza shop d’Bronx.

Several customers pulled on the doors of its 7070 W. 105th St. spot in Overland Park just before noon Tuesday, only to realize they’d have to make other lunch plans.

The restaurant is listed as “permanently closed” on Google, but both its owner and property manager with The Staenberg Group could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon. Its neighboring tenants at Teriyaki Madness said the doors have been locked since Monday.

If it is indeed permanently closed, this marks the end of an era for the restaurant, which has been serving pies in the Kansas City area since its original location at 39th and Bell streets opened in 1990.

At one time, it had several locations across the metro. In the past five years, it’s closed that original location, plus spots at 6846 Johnson Drive in Mission and in Crown Center.

D’Bronx was created by Robert and Janet Bloom, who had family ties to a deli in The Bronx. Its last owner, Don Foringer, bought the restaurant several years later.

The restaurant was known for its provolone and mozzarella-topped pizza, chicken noodle soup, and Reuben sandwich.

Last year, Italian restaurant Avelluto’s opened as a revival of longtime favorite Italian Delight in the old d’Bronx location in Mission.
