After announcing a new nonstop flight from Kansas City International Airport to Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina, the airport is adding a new connection to another city on the east side of the United States.

While the airport offers nonstop flights to Atlanta through Delta and Southwest Airlines, Frontier Airlines said it will add an additional option to KCI in the spring. The flight to Kansas City is one of nine new routes Frontier is adding, along with St. Louis; Oklahoma City; Oranjestad, Aruba; Fort Myers, Florida; Jacksonville, Florida; Palm Beach, Florida; Columbus, Ohio, and San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

The new flight is also expected to be much cheaper than current prices. Frontier Airlines’ fares are 60% less expensive than other airlines operating out of Atlanta, James Dempsey, president of the Atlanta-based airline, said in a statement.

“Not only are we committed to making flying affordable, but we are on a mission to deliver a better flight experience with many new enhancements coming in the next year, including a first-class seat option,” Dempsey said.

With Kansas City and the rest of the incoming routes, Frontier will now serve 52 destinations. Officials with Frontier said they would increase departures by 40% by the summer.

The flight to Kansas City, which is expected to take off three times every week starting May 23, will start at $39, according to Frontier. Frequency and times are subject to change.

The new flight option is the latest to take flight in May, as there is a nonstop flight taking travelers from Kansas City to Alabama’s Gulf Shores in the same month.
