With snowfall pummeling the Kansas City area much of the day Tuesday and extreme cold expected to linger, some schools across the metro are closed Wednesday.

Snowfall totals are expected to reach 3 to 5 inches by Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service. The winter storm brought a record low temperature of -1 degrees to Pleasant Hill by Tuesday morning, with dangerously low temperatures expected to continue until Friday.

Snowplows have been running nonstop across the city as public works personnel wage “24/7 snowplow operations” against the wintry weather.

However, road conditions remain poor, and the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency advised residents Tuesday afternoon to continue avoiding travel if possible.

For some schools, this week’s snow marks the third winter weather event to force a multi-day closure since the start of 2025. Some districts have already used all of the virtual learning days allotted by Kansas and Missouri, and have adjusted their calendars accordingly through the end of the year.

KC area school closings, virtual learning days

Here is the working list of schools that have announced closures, late starts and virtual learning days for Tuesday. The Star will update this list as information becomes available.
