Kansas City snow plows continued crisscrossing the thousands of miles of streets the city maintains while a fresh wave of snow dropped over the region Tuesday.

As of about 1:30 p.m., Kansas City snow plows had completed about 38% of plow routes, according to city spokesman Ryan McMonigle.

“We’re in 24/7 snow operations right now, which is no different than the other recent snow events,” he said in an email. “Snow Command is anticipating waves of snow over the next several hours and will continue to plow until all city streets are cleared.”

The city has 36 arterial plow routes for streets that carry major traffic. Those receive higher levels of service than the 67 residential neighborhood routes.

The snow accumulation has been accompanied by bitter cold with single-digit temperatures and below-zero wind chills.

The National Weather Service said around 2:30 p.m. that moderate snow continued south of Interstate 70, with lighter snow falling to the north.

“Snow is expected to continue through the afternoon into evening,” NWS said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Heaviest additional accumulations are still expected south of I-70.”
