Star of Hallmark’s Chiefs Christmas movie watches KC win AFC Championship Game vs. Bills

Actor Tyler Hynes got rock star treatment as he walked through GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. People cheered him. They waved. Fans wanted to talk to him.

He got the VIP privilege of visiting the sidelines, then watched the Chiefs win the AFC Championship Game and earn a return trip to the Super Bowl.

Clearly, Chiefs Kingdom has adopted the Canadian actor as one of its own. The affection, as Hynes shared in an Instagram post on Monday, is mutual. “KC = Family,” he wrote.

Hynes co-starred last year in “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story.” The cast and crew spent several weeks in Kansas City in July, which included filming at Arrowhead.

Hynes can now brag that he’s been in the Chiefs locker room.

The film became the Hallmark Channel’s most popular Christmas movie of the season, earning Hynes legions of new admirers among Chiefs fans.

“Love to the KC @chiefs family and everyone who’s built this season and experience for the fans into something of legend,” he wrote Monday, also posting a video of his time at the game Sunday.

“It takes a village of humble, hard working folks to create this level of spectacle and having spent time with most of them let me tell you they are just as individually exceptional as their achievements.

“Grateful to have been embraced by this city that feels like no other, yet somehow feels like home.”

Hynes had taken a self-imposed break from social media before breaking it over the weekend with a sentimental Instagram post recalling his time in Kansas City.

In “Holiday Touchdown,” Hynes played the Chiefs’ director of fan engagement who falls in love with a Chiefs superfan, played by Hunter King.

Several former and current Chiefs players — Mecole Hardman Jr., George Karlaftis, Trey Smith and Christian Okoye — appeared, as well as coach Andy Reid and Donna Kelce.

The movie did so well that it didn’t take long for chatter about a possible sequel to bubble up, an idea several cast members have said they would support.

Officially, Hallmark hasn’t said anything about a possible part two. But that hasn’t stopped Hynes and King from envisioning it.

Maybe there’s a wedding at Arrowhead?

Maybe they plot to marry off Mama Kelce?

“Tyler has said before the sequel would beHoliday Touchdown: A Donna Kelce Love Story,’” King told Glamour last year. “So we hope Donna is ready for that.”

“Yeah, we become like friends, confidants,” Hynes chimed in. “We start setting her up on dates. Things go awry around the holiday season.

“And then Patrick Mahomes and their backup quarterback go down in the final game of the Super Bowl. They have to tap in Donna Kelce. She throws the game-winning touchdown to her son.

“Taylor Swift floats down from above. That’s like a Christmas angel singing. A brand new Taylor Swift Christmas song that’s going to blow the charts out. Oh, have I just written this movie?”

Hynes has made no secret of how he didn’t know anything about NFL football before making the movie.

“I am a Canadian raised by beavers who was a skateboarder, so organized sports was not my thing,” he told Glamour. “But I went to the stadium, I went to the town, and met a lot of the staff.

“Everybody was so lovely. It felt very kind, similar to the feeling that you see at the Hallmark headquarters ... It feels like a second home now at this point because I’ve been back to it three or four times.

“If Canada and America were to have a child, that’s Kansas City.”

Something tells us we’ll be seeing him at the Super Bowl, too.
