Two women died and a man was seriously injured after a vehicle ran off a bridge and landed in a river early Friday morning, Kansas City police said.

Officers responded just after 3 a.m. to westbound Interstate 435 to a reported fatal crash near 103rd Street. A preliminary investigation shows that a red Honda SUV was traveling west on I-435 when it ran off the road to the right and traveled over a snowbank lining the north side of the highway.

The Honda then ran off the bridge, falling approximately 100 feet and landed in the Blue River, police said in a crash report.

The Honda was traveling too fast for weather conditions on the snow-covered highway, the crash report said.

The driver, 24-year-old Breanna M. Bullington, and a back-seat passenger, 21-year-old Alexis M. Bullington were declared deceased at the scene.

The front-seat passenger of the Honda, a man, was taken to a hospital with critical injuries and was still in critical condition just after 5 p.m. Friday.

Two lanes of westbound I-435 were closed to traffic Friday morning near the crash scene. Authorities were working to recover the Honda and the deceased occupants inside, said Jake Becchina, a spokesperson with Kansas City Police Department.

According to Becchina, the crash marks Kansas City’s 1st and 2nd traffic fatalities of 2025. At this time last year, the city had recorded 4 traffic fatalities.
