Slippery road conditions are possible Friday morning after the Kansas City metro got another round of snow overnight, and a winter weather advisory remains in effect until mid-morning.

The advisory is for snowfall up to 2 inches, but may be less in some areas of the metro, according to the National Weather Service forecast. Drivers should take caution, and give extra time to get where they are going, the weather service said on X.

The light snowfall comes on the tail-end of a winter storm that pummeled the Kansas City metro earlier this week.

Maps from the Missouri Department of Transportation show most major roads south of Interstate 70 covered or partially covered in snow as of 7 a.m. Friday. Crews were out working to clear and treat roads, but it could take some time before slick conditions improve.

“Crews are continuing to work and clear from the overnight snowfall,” said Brooke Rohlfing, a spokesperson with MoDOT. “We still have plenty of materials on the road from the continued treatment and clearing throughout the week. Motorists should watch out for the slush from repeated weather events and refreeze.”

Rohlfing said the traveler information map at is the best resource for the most up-to-date road conditions: https://traveler.modot.org/map/.

“We encourage motorists to check the map, plan ahead, adjust driving for the conditions and delay travel if possible,” Rohlfing said.

Roads in Kansas are also partially covered in snow, the KanDrive maps show. Drivers can expect delays Friday morning on major routes like Interstate 35 and U.S. 169 Highway as crews clear snow.

Stranded motorists, accidents on snowy Missouri roads

From 8 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday, Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol received 47 calls, including 30 stranded motorists and 7 crashes, the agency said on X.

“During the morning commute, we expect numbers to rise,” Troop A said on X. “Give yourself extra time, increase following distances, slow down. Make sure you arrive safe!”

Early morning temperatures were several degrees below freezing, in the mid to upper 20s, the weather service said in its Friday morning weather discussion.

Snowfall amounts are not yet available for Friday. But most of the metro will likely see less than 2 inches of snow, mostly before 8 a.m., the forecast predicts. The weather service indicated it would not be surprised if there were pockets of 2 to 3 inches of snowfall along and south of Interstate 70.

Temperatures remain lower than normal Friday and into the weekend, the weather service said. Friday’s high is around 31 degrees. On Saturday, the high is expected to be around 33 degrees and an overnight low is expected near 27 degrees.

Saturday night, areas north of Interstate 70 have another chance for snow, the weather service predicts.
