Taylor Swift makes surprise visit to Children’s Mercy Hospital day before 35th birthday
Taylor Swift paid a surprise visit to Children’s Mercy on Thursday, visiting with and singing for patients, chatting up excited staff members and even taking a picture with a therapy dog just one day before her 35th birthday on Friday the 13th.
She stopped in patient Baylee Nuzum’s room. The 11-year-old from Butler has been at the hospital for six days being treated for chronic stomach pain and a blood clot.
“We had the coolest, most unexpected surprise ever (with like 2 minutes warning),” her mom, Melissa Nuzum, posted on Facebook Thursday.
“TAYLOR SWIFT came to visit impatient children today and Baylee was chosen since she requests Taylor songs during her uncomfortable procedures!
“Ya’ll she is amazing! On top of her sheer beauty she was just as kind and personable and down to earth. She gave Baylee a signed copy of her Eras Tour book and accepted a gift from Baylee ( a diamond art picture) as well.
“We have fan girled all morning! I even cried because it’s wonderful to see my girl smile so much knowing the pain she’s been in.”
The grateful mother thanked the superstar and “those involved at Children’s Mercy that helped make this happen!”
Families and staff at the hospital appear to have known about Swift’s visit for a few hours before it leaked onto social media.
The Taylor Swift Updates account on X posted a photo of Swift with a therapy dog, and other pictures and videos soon emerged.
“Taylor Swift spotted today at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City!” the caption read.
The Star has reached out to the hospital for confirmation of Swift’s visit.
Fans online swapped reports of the global star entertainer visiting the hospital’s cancer floor — reportedly locked down for her visit — and extra security at the hospital.
The Taylor Swift Updates account reported she visited the hospital’s procedural sedation unit and posted photos of Swift posing with staff.
“A couple of days after finishing her tour, Taylor Swift visited Children’s Mercy Hospital, met with the children, FaceTimed their families, and gave away a bunch of gifts, including a signed Eras Tour Book,” the account reported.
Swift wrapped up her record-breaking Eras Tour on Sunday in Vancouver.
Now Swift is preparing to celebrate her 35th birthday, which as mentioned is on Friday. She celebrated last year in New York City with friends.
“In her ‘off’ time following the conclusion of the Eras Tour, it appears that Taylor spent the day visiting Children’s Mercy, a children’s hospital in Kansas City in a coordinating (yes) plaid/tartan set by Miu Miu,” wrote the Instagram fashion account, Taylor Swift Styled.
