Record-breaking chef sculpts Chiefs helmet entirely from chocolate — with a power drill
Millions of people regularly watch “The Chocolate Guy” on TikTok sculpt giant, over-the-top creations out of chocolate.
French-Swiss pastry chef and chocolatier Amaury Guichon, who has more than 16 million followers on Instagram alone, has molded chocolate into bigger-than-life toy racetracks, rubber duckies, screwdrivers, pink flamingos and Lego figurines.
The Guinness Book of World of Records last month gave the social media star his second record — for a giant banana made from chocolate. He also holds the record for the largest chocolate sculpture of a balloon animal.
And this week, people are watching a video of him sculpt an enormous Kansas City Chiefs helmet. The TikTok has been seen more than 3 million times over the last couple of days.
The video on his Facebook page has been seen more than 2 million times and has attracted more than 3,000 comments from fans of the Chiefs, and chocolate.
“I think this one is a touchdown,” he wrote on TikTok. “The best gear for a sweet victory.”
The video shows him molding, pouring, smoothing, torching, cutting, chiseling, taping, drilling, painting and stenciling the chocolate creation.
This is not delicate work. At one point he uses a power drill to make the helmet’s vent holes.
In the end, it looks big enough for a couple of toddlers to cuddle up inside.
“Creating this oversized chocolate football helmet for the Kansas City Chiefs was an incredible honor and an exciting challenge. Every detail is crafted entirely out of chocolate,” he explained on Facebook.
“What do you think of this sweet tribute to the team?”
He created his world-record partly-peeled banana sculpture — 66 inches long — in May.
“Amaury, a seasoned pastry chef and chocolatier, has become well known around the world for his masterful manipulation of chocolate,” Guinness officials said on their website. “His tasty creations have seen him amass millions of followers on social media.
“Explaining his process, he told us: ‘There are a handful of us chefs in the world able to craft chocolate at that scale. Not only is the material very precious and expensive, but it requires a lot of work, year after year, to be able to master it enough to bend it to your will.
“What I’ve been doing over the last decade is trying to find technique and method to make this simple, beautiful material into pieces of art.”
Guichon did not reveal why he made the Chiefs helmet, or when. But given that he lives and works in Las Vegas, where he founded the Pastry Academy, perhaps he did it for a Super Bowl event earlier this year?
And for the record, his sculptures are not meant to be eaten.
