21-year-old Kansas City man charged with murder in June shooting: Court documents
A Kansas City man has been charged in the fatal shooting another man in broad daylight in east Kansas City in June.
Myloe T. Doan, 21, was charged Monday with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action for his role in the death of William C. Wright, 29.
Doan is accused of shooting Wright near the 9th and Van Brunt Athletic Fields Park on June 2. Police responded to the intersection of 9th Street and Van Brunt Boulevard just before 2 p.m., where they found Wright on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds, according to Kansas City Police Department spokesperson officer Alayna Gonzalez.
Wright was shot in the upper back, according to court documents. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical responders.
Security footage captured nearby shows a Dodge Durango with black rims lingering outside of a nearby building starting around 1:38 on June 2, according to court documents. A man later identified as Doan can be seen on camera taking photos of the front of the building, court documents read, before chasing Wright near the front of the building.
The Durango was seen heading toward Doan’s home address after leaving the scene of the shooting, according to court records.
Along with the video and the movements of Doan’s car, officers used information from social media accounts registered to Doan to make an arrest, according to court documents.
Doan is not currently eligible for bond. His next court date has not yet been set.
Wright’s death was the 63rd homicide reported in Kansas City in 2024, according to data collected by The Star. At the same time last year, 77 homicides had been reported in the city.
