Several people were injured, some critically, in a shooting in Westport Wednesday night.

Kansas City police officers were dispatched just after 8 p.m. to the 300 block of Westport Road near a hookah lounge on a reported shooting. They found three people with gunshot wounds, who were taken by ambulance to a hospital with critical injuries.

While officers were at the scene, they learned that two additional victims from the shooting had arrived at a hospital. According to a Kansas City Police Department incident report, four men and one juvenile male were injured in the shooting.

At the time of the incident report, all victims had received treatment and were recovering, according to KCPD spokesman Phil DiMartino.

Detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting. Multiple shots were fired, DiMartino said.

As of Thursday morning, no one is in custody, DiMartino said. There are not believed to be any ongoing threats to the public.

Officers were gathering evidence and canvassing for witnesses. The scene of the shooting remains active as officers continue their investigation.

No deaths have been reported.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call the KCPD Assault Squad at 816-234-5227 or the TIPS hotline.
