A woman has been charged in connection to a shooting that killed a father and son in Freeman on Friday.

Misty Stufflebean, 43, of Harrisonville, was charged Saturday with first-degree burglary, a class B felony, and fourth-degree assault, a class C misdemeanor, in the deaths of 47-year-old Michael Spear and 27-year-old Brian Spear.

Deputies were dispatched around 1 p.m. Friday to Main and Washington streets in Freeman, near City Hall and the Freeman Community Club, after receiving reports that two men had been shot, the sheriff’s office said.

One of the men was transported by ambulance to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, said Ronnie Lozano, a spokesperson for the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. The other man was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

A man was questioned and released during the investigation. Stufflebean was later taken into custody for questioning and was arrested in connection to the shooting.

A judge ordered Stufflebean to be held without bond, and she is in custody at the Cass County Jail.

Deputies were processing the scene for evidence Friday and Saturday. In a news release, the sheriff’s office said the investigation remains ongoing.

No other information was available Saturday.
