Several fireworks displays around the Kansas City were delayed due to wet weather but photographers from The Star made it to a couple of the big shows that managed to light up the skies in spite of the weather.

Kauffman Stadium was packed with fans Wednesday night to see the Royals take on the Tampa Bay Rays then see the Independence Day fireworks and drone show after the game. Showers in the area threatened to wash out the game and the event but cleared out in time to make way for a 4-2 Royals victory over the Rays and a spectacular light show after the game. Mother Nature put on her own light show when the showers cleared out and a rainbow crossed the sky for fans to see as they peered over the outfield.

Thursday night saw a large crowd gathered around the National WWI Museum and Memorial to take part in the annual Stars and Stripes Picnic. The day’s activity of music and food ended with a fireworks show that send blasts painting the sky over the memorial tower.

Here are photos from the events.
