These Kansas City area fireworks shows have been delayed due to weather
Thunderstorms moved through the Kansas City area Tuesday night, and more are expected Wednesday and Thursday, when plenty of 4th of July celebrations are planned.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop late afternoon or evening in parts of Kansas and Missouri and continue into the morning of Independence Day, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service said there is a low probability of severe weather Wednesday, although there is potential for heavy rain in west-central and central Missouri in the evening.
A few fireworks displays were postponed due to the weather, and more can be pushed back if the area sees more rain. Here’s what’s been pushed back so far, and when visitors can see the show in the sky.
What Kansas City area fireworks shows are delayed?
As of Thursday, seven fireworks shows around the Kansas City metro are not happening as scheduled:
Overland Park Star Spangled Spectacular
The large Johnson County celebration, scheduled for Thursday evening, is canceled due to muddy conditions, flooding in Indian Creek and inclement weather, the city of Overland Park announced Thursday. The fireworks display is rescheduled to Friday, July 5, at 10 p.m. at Corporate Woods Founders’ Park. However, the originally planned musical acts and food trucks will not be present Friday.
Northeast Johnson County Fireworks Display
The fireworks show set for Wednesday in Roeland Park is postponed until Friday, according to a social media post from the city of Roeland Park. It’s now scheduled for 9:45 p.m. Friday at Bishop Miege High School’s baseball field, 5041 Reinhardt Drive.
City of Kearney Fireworks Celebration
The City of Kearney’s fireworks show was scheduled for Wednesday, and it’s been postponed until Friday, the city said. The fireworks start at 9 p.m. The live performance from the band Switch has been canceled.
Odessa Fireworks Display
The City of Odessa postponed its Tuesday fireworks display until 9:30 p.m. Sunday The show is at Dyer Park, 601 W. Main St., and pre-fireworks festivities start at 5 p.m.
Fireworks in the Park in Kansas City, Kansas
The fireworks show hosted by the Turner Recreation Commission was supposed to happen Tuesday and is now scheduled for Friday, July 12, due to inclement weather. The show starts around 9:45 p.m. at Pierson Park, 1800. S. 55th St.
Paola Fireworks Spectacular
The annual fireworks spectacular at Miola Lake in Paola was scheduled for Wednesday and is now happening Saturday, the Paola Chamber of Commerce said on Facebook. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., and the fireworks start at dusk.
Liberty Fest
The City of Liberty postponed Liberty Fest on Wednesday due to Tuesday’s storm. The Independence Day festival is now scheduled for Friday, July 26, at the Capitol Federal Sports Complex of Liberty, 2200 E. Old 210 Highway.
If you purchased a $10 parking pass for the event and can no longer make it to the rescheduled date, you can bring or mail the pass to the Liberty Area Chamber of Commerce office, 1170 W Kansas St. Suite H, for a refund.
