Even though Independence Day has come and gone in the Kansas City area, the nighttime celebrations will continue through the weekend.

A number of Fourth of July fireworks displays were rescheduled because of severe weather and flooding earlier in the week. However, some events went on as planned on Thursday, including the Stars and Stripes Picnic at Liberty Memorial and Red White and Blue Springs.

While these four fireworks shows rained out earlier this week, you can catch them tonight. Here’s what you need to know.

Overland Park Star Spangled Spectacular

  • 10 p.m. on Friday, July 5

  • Corporate Woods Founders’ Park in Overland Park

Flooding in Indian Creek caused the event to be postponed from Thursday. Organizers asked fireworks attendees to keep to paths or parking lots due to “extremely muddy” conditions.

Leawood Fireworks Show

  • 10 p.m. on Friday, July 5

  • Leawood City Park, 10601 Lee Blvd.

This event will not have the rides or food trucks originally planned for Thursday. The park has a limited number of parking spots.

Northeast Johnson County Fireworks Display

  • 9:45 p.m. on Friday, July 5

  • Bishop Miege High School’s baseball field, 5041 Reinhardt Drive, in Roeland Park

This event was moved from Wednesday to Friday due to weather. Parking is limited and will close once the lot is full.

City of Kearney Fireworks Celebration

  • 9:30 p.m. on Friday, July 5

  • Jesse James Park in Kearney

The Northland event will have inflatables and concessions for families starting at 5 p.m. It was originally set for Wednesday.

More fireworks delays

Four area events were delayed further.

This weekend, you will be able to catch the Paola Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday and the Odessa Fireworks Display on Sunday.

Later on, the Kansas City, Kansas, Fireworks in the Park will be held Friday, July 12, and the Liberty Fest north of the river will take place on Friday, July 26.
