Taylor Swift sends $100,000 and ‘deepest sympathies’ to KC shooting victim’s family
Pop star Taylor Swift donated $100,000 to the family of the woman who was fatally shot at Kansas City’s Super Bowl victory rally Wednesday.
Two back-to-back $50,000 donations were made in the singer’s name on a GoFundMe set up for Lisa Lopez-Galvan’s family. A representative for Swift told Variety that the donation was indeed from the singer.
“Sending my deepest sympathies and condolences in the wake of your devastating loss. With love, Taylor Swift,” the donation reads.
Lopez-Galvan, who lived in Shawnee, was a mother of two and a disc jockey who hosted a program on community radio station KKFI.
Swift has been a frequent presence at Chiefs games, including the Super Bowl in Las Vegas, cheering on her boyfriend, tight end Travis Kelce. After the Super Bowl, she flew to Melbourne, Australia, to resume her worldwide Eras Tour.
The GoFundMe set out to raise $75,000. As of 9:30 a.m. Friday, donations surpassed $200,000 and continued to climb.
Twenty-three people were shot as the rally at Union Station wrapped up. Half of the victims are under age 16, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said in a news conference Thursday. The victims ranged in age from 8 to 47.
Kansas City police arrested three suspects but released one Thursday. Two teenagers remain in police custody.
