‘She never fails to shock us.’ Taylor Swift fans hyped over her album news at Grammys
It would be a small miracle if there are any more of those happy-crying emojis left after Taylor Swift announced a new album at the Grammy Awards on Sunday.
Swifties spilled tears of joy all over social media when Swift made a surprise announcement while she was accepting the Grammy for best pop vocal album for “Midnights.”
“OK, this is my 13th Grammy, which is my lucky number. I don’t know if I’ve ever told you that,” Swift said.
(It must be said: Every Swiftie knows that.)
She said the Grammy was a reflection of the passion of her fans.
“So I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years,” she said as cheers and applause rose from the audience.
“My brand new album …”
Bigger applause and cheers.
“Comes out April 19.”
Squeals from the crowd.
“It’s called ‘The Tortured Poets Department.’ I’m going to go and post the cover right now, backstage.”
What?
Social media exploded.
Fans were expecting an announcement about “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)“ after she showed up wearing the “Reputation” colors of black and white.
“THE RED HERRING WAS US THINKING IT WAS REPUTATION!!! IT WAS NEW ALBUM!!!” one Swiftie tweeted on X.
“Taylor Swift would rather release a new album than let any of our theories be correct,” another fan tweeted.
“When she said brand new album my jaw hit the floor. Here we are smugly waiting for the Rep TV announcement — like she never fails to shock us,” tweeted another.
One fan thought Swift should have waited to make the announcement during a certain football game coming up in a week. The one where that “Karma” guy, Travis Kelce, and his Kansas City Chiefs teammates are playing.
“Taylor Swift should’ve announced the new album during the Super Bowl just to further enrage the Brads and Chads,” they tweeted.
The album cover popped up quickly on Swift’s social media accounts with this message: “All’s fair in love and poetry.”
The cover photo shows (presumably) Swift lounging on top of big white pillows wearing black lingerie. There are also handwritten notes.
“And so I enter into evidence
“My tarnished coat of arms
“My muses, acquired like bruises
“My talismans and charms
“The tick, tick, tick of love bombs
“My view of pitch black ink.’
