Teen, 2 men found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning in Kansas City identified by KCFD
The names of the the teen and two adults found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning in a home on Kansas City’s East Side was released Tuesday by the Kansas City Fire Department.
They were identified as 14-year-old Elvin Romero, 34-year-old Santos Ortiz-Acosta and 42-year-old Alex Solsa Silvia, said Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins, a spokesman for the Kansas City Fire Department.
Family and friends told investigators that the three victims were from Honduras, Hopkins said.
Fire crews responding to a carbon monoxide call at 7:30 a.m. Monday found the victims inside a home in the 6800 block of East 12th Terrace, in the East Blue Valley neighborhood.
Firefighters detected elevated levels of carbon monoxide inside the home, and determined the source was from a generator the victims were running indoors. Their deaths have been determined to be accidental.
“KCFD would like to emphasize the importance of operating generators or any combustion engine outdoors in a well ventilated area, away from doors and windows,” Hopkins said in a news release.
People are urged to protect themselves by installing carbon monoxide detectors, which are available at retailers. Free detectors also are available through the Kansas City Health Department’s Healthy Homes Rental Inspection Program.
