‘Avoid the area’: Injury crash knocks down power lines at intersection in Johnson County
A crash involving two vehicles knocked down power lines early Tuesday forcing police to shut down a heavily traveled intersection in Overland Park and ask drivers to avoid the area, a police spokesman said.
Two vehicles collided shortly after 4:10 a.m., downing power lines at West 119th Street and Quivira Road, said Capt. Gary Mason with the Overland Park Police Department.
The drivers were the only ones inside the vehicles at the time of the crash. They were injured, but the injuries were non-life threatening, he said.
Police were investigating how the crash occurred. One of the drivers was shaken up in the crash and doesn’t remember how it occurred, Mason said.
A traffic camera at the intersection also was down prior to the crash so there was no video police could view, he said.
The intersection, which is south of Johnson County Community College and north of the University of Kansas Edwards Campus, is expected to remain close for an extended time while repairs are made, Mason said.
There are two outages at the intersection affecting 9 customers, according to Evergy’s outage map.
