Two people were injured, one critically, in a Kansas City crash that involved five vehicles and two pedestrians Saturday, police say.

Just before 11 p.m., officers responded to a crash northbound U.S. Highway 71 and Gregory Boulevard.

Investigators determined a Toyota Camry was stopped at a red light when a red Pontiac rear-ended one of the vehicles, pushing it into a nearby Chevrolet Cruze, according to a statement from the Kansas City Police Department.

Then, a white Chrysler driving by attempted to avoid the crash. Instead, it steered into a concrete wall and crashed, police say.

When the drivers of the Pontiac and Chrysler exited their vehicles, another Toyota Camry hit the Pontiac, which caused the Pontiac to hit the two pedestrians.

The driver of the Pontiac was transported to a hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the Chrysler was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police say.
