Victims of shooting near festival in downtown Kansas City were three teens, police say
Three teens were shot outside Kansas City’s T-Mobile Center Saturday night during a community event in a nearby entertainment district, police say.
Officers responded to a shooting before 9 p.m., where they discovered the victims had been injured near the intersection of 13th and McGee streets, near Kansas City’s Cornucopia festival in the Power & Light District.
The teens were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, said Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department. Police say they do not have a suspect in custody at this time.
The festival — a free, three-day community event that began Friday — was slated to end for the night around 9 p.m.
Gonzalez said the shooting involved teens who attended the event.
“Preliminarily, it is believed the victims were familiar with the suspects and had been feuding prior to the incident,” Gonzalez said.
The festival was scheduled to pick up again Sunday at noon and run until 6 p.m.
Representatives with the entertainment district could not be immediately reached Sunday morning to answer whether any additional security measures or schedule changes would take place.
Inside the T-Mobile Center, a WWE Supershow event was placed on lockdown until roughly 10:35 p.m., when police secured the scene.
