A 17-year-old Shawnee boy died in a nine-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in Overland Park, according to police.

The teen was driving southbound around 6:45 a.m. near the 11400 block of Metcalf Avenue, when another vehicle struck the rear of his car, said Officer John Lacy, a spokesman for the Overland Park Police Department.

Police said the initial crash led to collisions between seven other vehicles that shut down the roadway for hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
