Update: Police said Saturday night that Catherine Mendez was found and is safe.

Authorities are seeking the public’s help to locate an 80-year-old woman with dementia who went missing early Saturday morning.

Kansas City police have issued an endangered silver advisory alert and believe she is in need of medical care.

Catherine Mendez was last seen by her daughter, who spotted the 80-year-old walking around the backdoor of her home around 8:30 a.m., according to Jessalin Anderson, a spokeswoman for the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

She left her apartment in the 1300 block of East 27th Street on foot wearing a neon orange Golden Girls t-shirt, a polka-dotted skirt and slippers, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City police.

Mendez stands 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds.

She suffers from high blood pressure and an irregular heart rate.
