Kansas City police are investigating impairment in a rollover crash early Saturday morning that left the driver with life-threatening injuries.

Just before 1 a.m., officers were called to 67th Street and Swope Parkway, according to a statement from the Kansas City Police Department. Investigators determined a Chevrolet C10 was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic before losing control and swerving off the road.

The driver struck and “unearthed” a light pole, police said, throwing it into a nearby tree. The Chevrolet then rolled and ejected the driver and a passenger before hitting another tree and coming to a stop.

The driver was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The passenger was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, according to the department.

Officers are continuing to investigate the crash.
