The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash early Sunday morning that resulted in the death of a 12-year-old boy.

The crash occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. in the 8300 block of Southeast Ratner Road, Sheriff Brian C. Hill wrote in a post Sunday on Facebook.

A 2004 Acura was traveling southbound on Southeast Ratner Road when it lost control, entered the west ditch and struck a culvert causing the vehicle to roll multiple times.

A 12-year-old boy, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was ejected from the vehicle, Hill wrote. Lifesaving procedures were performed, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Acura, a 19-year-old, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The identities of the 12-year-old and the 19-year-old have not yet been released by authorities.

Hill said in his Facebook post on Sunday the accident is still under investigation.
