Man dies in custody at Jackson County jail; investigation underway

A man in custody at the Jackson County Detention Center died after being found unresponsive late Friday.

Jackson County Sheriff Darryl Forté said on Twitter that after the man was found unresponsive, he was taken to a hospital where he died just before midnight Friday.

The man’s identity has not been released.

The man’s death is being investigated by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and his cause of death will be determined by the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office.

This is the third person held in the Jackson County Detention Center who has died this year. A 63-year-old man died in October shortly after arriving at the facility from the Missouri Department of Corrections. A 42-year-old man was found dead in May during rounds after complaining of a medical condition.
