18-year-old killed in three-car wreck on U.S. 40 in Kansas City on Thursday

An 18-year-old man died Thursday and three people were injured in a car wreck on U.S. 40 Highway near Brentwood Avenue in Kansas City, police said.

Around 3:20 p.m. Thursday, a GMC pickup truck driving east on U.S. Highway 40 hit a Nissan that was stopped in the center turn lane. The truck was then redirected into the westbound lanes where it collided head on with a Chevrolet SUV, according to an email from Kansas City Police Department spokeswoman Doaa El-Ashkar.

The driver of the truck, the 18-year-old, died at the scene of the crash, police said. The driver of the Nissan and driver and passenger of the Chevrolet were all transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
