Woman killed in crash after car flips multiple times on Interstate 435 in Kansas City

A woman was killed Monday in Kansas City after the car she was driving flipped multiple times on the interstate, police said.

Officers were called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash at about 2 a.m. Monday near Interstate 435 and East 87th Street, Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman with the Kansas City Police Department, said in an email.

A 41-year-old woman was driving a 2000 Nissan Maxima northbound on the interstate when she lost control of the car, causing it to flip multiple times, Becchina said.

The woman was thrown from the car during the wreck, police said. She was declared dead at the scene.

The crash is the 77th fatality this year. This time last year, there had been 53.
